The government funded a series of 'Community
Chests' across the country as part of its National Strategy for Neighbourhood
Renewal. The aim was to support community activity in deprived areas,
so that more people become involved in the regeneration of their communities
and neighbourhoods.

grants in the past?
In Round 9 of the
Manchester Community (Learning) Chest:
- 119 applications
were received asking for a total of £337,323!
- 88 were successful
in securing a grant.
- Grants totalling
£242,196 were allocated during round 9.
- Additionally, smaller
fastrack grants of up to £1500 were also allocated.
Geographically, groups
representing all areas within Manchester were allocated grants, with several
working in a variety of wards or city wide. A wide range of projects were
supported, with many individual and innovative ideas, underpinning a range
of community led activities.
The Community (Learning)
Chest supports the widest range of community activity in Manchester, encouraging
more people to become involved in the regeneration of their communities
