VAM NEWS

Message to all VAM's colleagues

Dear Colleagues,

It has been brought to my attention that there are a number of rumours in circulation around the City that Voluntary Action Manchester (VAM) has either already closed down or is about to close down. I would like to state that this is not the case.
Whilst VAM is undoubtedly still suffering from the financial impact of losing our core funding from the City Council and has subsequently had to undergo significant re-structuring during the past nine months, we are continuing to function and to meet our commitments to the projects that we manage. In particular:
1. We continue to manage the Manchester Community (Learning) Chest and CN4M and act as the responsible body for the Single Community Programme to Government Office North West (GONW) and Manchester City Council.
2. We are currently trying to develop the Manchester Change Up Consortium to improve the co-ordination of infrastructure support to the VCS across Manchester through the Change Up Fund. (Contact: Rob Arnold - 0161 234 2930)
3. We are also managing a project (funded through Change Up) to work with the Volunteer Community Network to try to move the idea of a co-ordinated volunteer service for Manchester from the drawing board into an actual funded project. (Contact: Ben Anderson - 0161 234 2935)
4. We manage a Change Up funded project to improve the governance of VCS organisations throughout Greater Manchester. At this stage the project is largely research based but during the next few months we hope to be able to produce some resources for trustees and potential trustees. (Contact: Rob Arnold - 0161 234 2930).

We are also seeking to bring in other funding for a variety of project ideas during the coming months. We very much hope that VAM will overcome its current difficulties and continue to serve the voluntary and community sector in Manchester for a number of years to come.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about VAM then please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes,

Rob Arnold
